Meet Maddie, Speech Pathology Assistant
Why did you choose allied health?
I have always been interested in using words, pictures, art and music to tell a story or convey a message. When I was finishing high school, I was so lucky to be introduced to the speech pathology profession by my mum who works closely with allied health professionals. I was so excited to find a career that embraced all my passions whilst fostering new ones at the same time. I love learning new things, and love how speech pathology allows me to share my pocket of knowledge and creativity.
What are your preferred practice areas?
I love working with adolescents and children! I am particularly interested in the practice areas of pragmatics, AAC, literacy and early language. I am also keen to learn about stroke rehabilitation and Traumatic Brain Injuries later on in my degree.
What do you enjoy doing on your weekend?
I love to find new teas and mugs to add to my collection, as well as trying out different cafes. My favourite thing is to read classic novels with a hot tea! I am also really enjoying mindfulness colouring and watching documentaries.
What is your favourite thing about your profession?
My favourite thing about being a Speech Pathology Assistant is finding creative ways to engage clients during sessions and motivate them towards their goals. I also love working closely with families and feel very special to be a part of their lives at such a crucial time.
